(May 11, 2023) Indira Khan, a.k.a. I.Khan, grew up listening to the music that her mother, the legendary Chaka Khan made, as well the songs from greats like Prince, Aretha Franklin, Minnie Riperton to Joni Mitchell and Steely Dan. However, she also grew up on New Jack Swing, Boyz to Men and songs from the golden age of hip hop, and those iconic artists serve as the reference point and inspiration for her new song “How Things Changed.”
“How Things Change” is sweet and nostalgic stroll down I.Khan’s memory lane. The cut shares the qualities of songs that look back on the culture and popular music of the generation when the artist came of age, whether it be the 60s, 70s or 80s. I.Khan reminds us that as bad as old codgers may think preceding generations may be, the 1980s and 90s are the good old days for Gen X, just like the 90s and early 2000s represented the good old days for the Millennials.
“How Things Change” also reminds us that the child of a music superstar is first and foremost a child, who has curfews and school-aged crushes and who danced to “My Prerogative” just as my generation jammed to “I’m Every Woman.” Check out “How Things Changed” here.
