(May 31, 2020) Singer and songwriter Halo Wheeler is new to us, but her list of accomplishments is long. The Howard University student is working on her PhD and is a Gates Millennium Scholar, but she has a long history of performing on such plays as The Color Purple as well as concerts opening for Frankie Beverly and Maze, Kelly Price, and Chrisette Michele.

And speaking of Chrisette, she is a decent reference point for Wheeler, who certainly has major vocal chops, as she showed on her 2014 debut album and demonstrates again on her fun new single, “La La La.”

The song has the groove of a warm weather jam, and Halo’s vocals are right on throughout. This song would have been a fit during the neo soul peak of the 90s and it sounds just as good in 2020. Check out “La La La” below, and welcome Halo Wheeler to SoulTracks.
