(February 13, 2025) Disco Queen Gloria Gaynor has inspired generations around the world with her anthem “I Will Survive.” She has also overcome personal and professional adversity to get to where she is today – not only surviving but thriving. This is made clear in her new biopic I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story, which premiered Feb 8th on Lifetime, followed by the TV debut of her 2024 documentary, Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive.
At the end of her biopic, viewers heard a snippet of Gloria’s new single “Fida Known”, which is her first release since her GRAMMY-winning gospel album Testimony (2019).In case you’re wondering, “Fida” is just a faster way of saying “If I’d’ve” – so, rather than the title being “If I’d’ve Known,” it’s “Fida Known.”
Gloria explains that her new tune is “about finding happiness after a bad relationship”, adding that the lyrics “help you understand that you don’t have to let negative people bring you down.” Gloria knows this all too well. She has spoken candidly about her ex-husband and manager, whom she divorced over 20 years ago. In “Fida Known,” it sounds like she’s singing directly to him, not out of revenge but with the realization that she didn’t need him to be happy.
“Fida Known” – which has a modern disco flavor with classic Nile Rodgers-like guitar riffs – is a track that can make you dance while feeling empowered. It’s a continuation of “I Will Survive” too because, according to Gloria, it stems from the lyrics: “If I’d’ve (fida) known for just one second you’d be back to bother me / Go, now, go, walk out the door…”
So…go, now, go, check out Glo and her new anthem, “Fida Known!”
