(November 12, 2024) Signer and songwriter Gino Vannelli burst onto the music scene over a half century ago as “The Canadian singer with a lion’s mane.” But he moved to the front of the line in 1978 with his monster album Brother to Brother and the charttopping single “I Just Wanna Stop.”
Since those halcyon days, Vannelli has continued to successfully record and perform around the world, charming audiences with his unique blend of jazz, pop and soul. And that style pervades his brand new single, “Keep On Walking,” his first release in a half decade.
“Keep On Walking” was originally written by Vannelli in 1975, but it takes on a new, more personal meaning with the new recording as Vannelli mourns the passing of his wife Patricia, who died of cancer earlier this year: “I love you in my loneliness/And it keeps me hangin’ on/I gotta, I gotta keep on walking.”
The powerful lyrics are supported by a strong, horn-filled arrangement and a terrific vocal performance by the 72 year old Vannelli. “Keep On Walking” is the lead single from the upcoming album The Life I Got (To My Most Beloved), that pays further tribute to Patricia.
