We’re in a golden age, it seems, of new, soulful vocalists. Now popping up on the SoulTracks radar is the charming Geneviève Bellemare, a 23-year old Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter who grew up in Vancouver and Oregon. Hers is a voice in which you can happily get lost.
Following her EP Live and Die, released last year, Bellemare is now preparing for the September 18th launch of her debut full-length album, Melancholy Fever (Verve Music), and has recently issued the visual for her lead single, “Shenanigans,” produced by Paul O’Duffy (Amy Winehouse) and Gus Black. The track features her seductive vocals atop angry, distorted electric guitars and a propulsive, old school R&B beat. If you like Amy, Adele, or more generally the type of “updated retro soul/R&B” produced by the likes of Mark Ronson, this one should be right in your sweet spot. Have a listen, and stop with your shenanigans!
