(April 3, 2024) Soul singer Tony Terry made quite a name for himself in the late 80s and early 90s with a string of smash hits like “Lovey Dovey,” “Everlasting Love” and the romantic classic, “With You.” And he has continued to record and perform around the world ever since, still sounding great.
SoulTrackers may be less familiar with Garry Percell, but he has been the go-to guitarist for a number of acts over the past quarter century, including the Betty Davis Band and SoulTracks favorites The Chairmen of the Board.
For Gary’s latest single, he brings in Tony Terry to help bring a new sound to a multiple time classic, “Going In Circles.” The ballad first became a top 5 hit in 1969 for The Friends of Distinction, and then had additional lives as a hit for The Gap Band in the 80s and Luther Vandross in the 90s.
There’s no question that “Going In Circles” is iconic as a song, and Gary and Tony breathe new freshness to it with their collaboration – delivering a version that features Gospel harmonies behind an arrangement that pulls from both classic R&B and jazz. It is amazing nighttime listening, and a version that does absolute justice to this classic composition.
Take a listen to this new version of “Going In Circles,” and enjoy the song all over again.
