(April 17, 2025) If any person has earned a well-deserved rest it’s Eddie Levert, the legendary founder of the Mighty O’Jays. However, through all the professional and personal ups, downs, triumphs and tragedies, Eddie Levert will perform and record as long as he is able.
Levert missed a few recent O’Jays shows, so Eric Nolan and Walter Williams held it down with guest Nicholas Pierce. When Eddie Levert is on stage, he is there in full bloom, and his assertive and muscular voice can still fill a room, as evidenced by concert footage on YouTube of Levert and Williams killing it one “Forever Mine.”
Eddie Levert brings that same energy to “I Wanna Love On You,” a slow jam that finds the legend assuming the role of the romantic looking to treat his lady to an evening of tender loving care. This is a subject that Eddie Levert has returned to throughout his illustrious career. Yet, he continues to find a way to imbue this track with passion. The voice remains strong even if he can’t soar into that high tenor range. Don’t get it twisted. Eddie Levert knows how to work with what he has and he still has a lot.
The fact is, Eddie Levert remains a master of the art of vocal seduction. Check out Eddie Levert’s latest solo effort, “I Wanna Love On You” here.
