First Listen: The late Al Johnson shines with Doc Pearson on “I Still Do”

Al Johnson was one of the all-time soul greats. First as a member of the great Unifics and then as a solo artist, songwriter and producer, Johnson was the pride of DC and an extremely underrated, talented man. (See our death notice of Al)

When Al died a few years ago, he left a big hole in the hearts of soul music fans as well as in the heart of his good friend, songwriter, musician and producer Derrick “Doc” Pearson (the “Doc” stands for Disciple of Christ), who has written for a “who’s who” of classic soul performers, including The Whispers and the O’Jays 

Pearson has a few recordings that feature Al, and he is now releasing a beautiful ballad on which Al Johnson duets with Kathy Horry. It is yet another terrific collaboration led by the talented Mr. Pearson, and also a reminder of soul music’s loss when Al Johnson died. Check out the song below.
