First Listen – Bobby Caldwell and Cee-Lo ask for “Mercy”

We’ve been writing about singer and songwriter Bobby Caldwell since day one on SoulTracks, and his classic song “What You Won’t Do For Love,” is, in our view, one of the greatest R&B songs ever.

Bobby has remained busy over the years, and a couple months ago released a new album as part of the duo Cool Uncle, which pairs him with producer Jack Splash and an all-star crew of guests. The newest single from that album teams Caldwell with another fantastic vocalist, Cee-Lo Green. The song, “Mercy,” has the feel of Caldwell’s early music, such as his Cat In the Hat album. But Cee-Lo definitely adds a great element to the heavy beat ballad.

The new video for “Mercy” has just been released and it’s…well…different. It is a claymation video featuring the singers as caged species in a zoo, singing to animals who are outside the cage. Hmmm. Well, we like the song, anyway. Check it out below and tell us what you think.
