First Listen: Chic returns to the #1 spot with “I’ll Be There”

It’s been awhile since music fans heard from Chic. The classic dance band of the late 70s and early 80s faded more than two decades ago, losing founding members Tony Thompson and Bernard Edwards and falling victim to changing musical styles.

Group leader Nile Rodgers continued to operate the group on and off over the years, but mostly played in the background for other acts. But Rodgers’ success working with artists like Daft Punk and Robin Thicke made him hot property again and gave a chance for Chic to return in a new form. The return is complete with the hot new single, “I’ll Be There,” which this week topped the Billboard Dance charts, the first Chic chart-topper in 23 years.

“I’ll Be There” is the welcome return of a longtime SoulTracks favorite. Check it out below and tell us what you think of the return of Nile Rodgers and Chic
