(April 26, 2024) Sometimes there is a lot to consider in one’s career when an artist remains true to their purpose in life. As one of gospel’s highly regarded messengers for over four decades, Detroit, Michigan born CeCe Winans carries a remarkable family tradition. From being raised and performing with a family steeped in gospel roots, to a hitmaking duo with her brother, BeBe Winans and now individually, CeCe has never lost her vocal step nor her spiritual convictions.
Once CeCe established her solo ministry in 1995 with her debut CD, Alone in His Presence, her vocal presence remains fully evident, culminating in crossover Billboard chart toppers in Christian, Gospel & R&B and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
From CeCe’s 2nd straight live recording, More Than This, the follow up to the three-time Grammy winning Believe for It, our First Listen focus features the riveting “That’s My King” (PureSprings Gospel/Fair Trade Services). This extremely easy to follow upbeat praise and worship arrangement is assuredly led by Winans, backed by an emphatic choir of Nashville’s best, lifting the enthusiastic atmosphere.
The musicians, guided by producer and worship veteran Kyle Lee, keep in stride bridging urban and pop elements. But the key is how Winans shares a genuine appreciation for the Lord without unnecessary explanation: “There aren’t enough colors/To paint the whole picture/ Not enough words to ever say what I’ve found.” So listen up and raise those hands in the air for “That’s My King.”
