(September 3, 2018) It’s always fun when we hear a talented new artist, and here’s one who was referred to us by longtime SoulTracks fave Jesse Fischer. His name is Calvin Brown, and he has a style that we’re digging. The Richmond, Virginia pianist and singer leads a seven piece band and takes that band in directions that range from jazz to gospel to soul and more.
Calvin, going by the name Calvin Presents, has just released a new song called “Dream,” and it is an ambitious introduction to the artist and his vision. It is also the lead single from his upcoming album of the same name. With Sam Reed handling vocals, Calvin and his band create a cool song that bridges soul and jazz, with multiple movements and a full-bodied arrangement.
