(January 23, 2023) Last October, 90s R&B trio Brownstone surprised the music world by issuing their first new music in two decades. “All I Want” was a well received return of Nicci Gilbert, Charmayne Maxwell and Mimi Doby.
But if “All I Want” was the group’s nod to current R&B production methods, their follow-up is a conscious look back at classic soul, as they take an Ashford & Simpson classic that was made popular by Diana Ross. “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” gets a restrained treatment here that focuses on the trio’s exquisite harmonies and strong lead vocals.
This is a nice counter to “All I Want” that again shows that the Brownstone sisters have the talent to do just about everything well. Check it out.
