(December 30, 2023) Singer and multi-instrumentalist Brother Reggie is the self-proclaimed “Undercover Boss of beautiful soul songs lost.” He has made a name for himself by releasing three volumes (or albums) of classic soul covers, with the goal of “introducing old school jams to a younger generation of listeners as well as grown folks who may have never heard the classic songs many of us have come to know and love.”
For Brother Reggie’s upcoming fourth cover album entitled UnderCover Brother Vol. IV, the first single is an old school jam that grown folks know and love – “Wishing on a Star,” originally performed by Rose Royce in 1977.
To make his R&B covers unique, Brother Reggie is known to ‘flip the script by jazzing up the song with a lead guitar or keyboard solo’, which he provides himself. In “Wishing on a Star,” he includes a nice keyboard solo, which is sure to appeal to smooth jazz radio formats.
Brother Reggie’s fanbase can feel like a part of his latest release because he recently asked them to let him know which song they wanted him to cover first between Anita Baker’s “Been So Long”, Tyrese’s “How You Gonna Act Like That” and Rose Royce’s “Wishing on a Star.” “Wishing” was the unanimous choice.
So here it is, from Brother Reggie to you.
