First Listen: Brett Schieber delivers an acoustic gem

(July 10, 2023) For years, composer/multi-instrumentalist Brett Schieber has worn many hats in the music biz. The Atlanta-based producer makes the most soulful works as one-half of the electropop duo Arcanium, while contributing to music education for kids.

Schieber’s most recent single, the ballad “She Sings Alone In The Dark,” is from his album project, Rock & Soul. Featuring singer Lewis Raye on lead and backing vocals, the song finds Schieber playing all instruments on the track – acoustic guitar, bass, drum programming, keyboards.

The storyline is a familiar one – a woman who gets lost not only in music but herself. She sees beauty in many things but not within herself. Lewis’s soft yet steady tenor says it all within the chorus, “Why can’t she see what I can see….why can’t see take she take her own advice…you’re beautiful!”

What is particularly enjoyable about “She Sings Alone In The Dark” is how Schieber transitions the song’s direction towards the middle with a jazzy blend of major/minor chords, allowing Raye’s brilliant multi-layered vocals to shine through.

While the song’s 5:43 timeframe may be challenging as far as radio play is concerned in many markets (stations often do prefer tunes to be under four minutes!), outlets across the country have already started spinning the single. From NYC to cities in PA as well as Kansas City, MO and the UK, “She Sings Alone In The Dark”, is enjoying solid airplay.

Looking forward to more great music from Brett Schieber and company in the near future.
