Over the last few years, SoulTrackers have gotten to know the name Michael J. Calhoun, and they’ve definitely responded. The Grammy Award winning Cleveland native is a world class guitarist founding member of Kinsman Dazz (later The Dazz Band) and continued with The Dazz Band through their Imperial Period, leaving to start both his solo career and to work with other acts.
More recently, Michael has worked with his band, Kinsman Dazz All Stars (which had a big hit a few years ago with the great “Soul Jam”), and has also created a strong solo career in the Gospel world, with a series of moving singles that have won him another legion of fans around the world.
Now, Michael has teamed with the hot jazz band BluDazz and singer Molotic (who also worked on “Soul Jam’) to create the charting single, “That Body.” A mellow funk tune with elements of Zapp and Cameo, “That Body” reminds us of those blue-lights-in-the-basement slow jams of the 80s.
Check out “That Body” below, and welcome Michael J. Calhoun and friends back to SoulTracks.
