ICYMI: Beyoncé and Jay Z Make Romance in the “Summer”

July 3, 2018 — Unless you’re Tommy, the “deaf, dumb and blind boy” celebrated by The Who in its majestic rock opera, I think it’s impossible to “miss” a new release by Beyoncé or Jay Z given their popularity and the massive media machine supporting them. Their new record, Everything Is Love, released last week, is no exception: It has been trumpeted in virtually every existing form of traditional and social media and was accompanied by a visual for its first single, shot in the Louvre in Paris, no less!

But we’re not the traditional media here, SoulTrackers, bringing you whatever is the sound du jour or the most popular artists simply because they’re newsworthy. Our aim is true: To focus you on the best new soul/R&B, no matter who has created it.  And with that goal in mind, we wanted to be sure that you heard “Summer,” the opening track from the Carters’ new album, in which they opt for a delicious old school soul vibe and deliver a buttery smooth performance.  Enjoy.
