(July 15, 2022) Beth Macari was in a very good place artistically in the late 2010s and into 2020. “Clone,” her 2018 single, combined a danceable pop arrangement with a great story of a man whose new love looks and moves a lot like his old flame.
Macari’s 2020 EP I Am Everything was an excellent example of mature, sophisticated R&B that featured tight instrumental arrangements and propelled by a voice that easily moved in and between the R&B, jazz and pop lanes. The talent she displayed had folks wondering what would be next from this talented British soul singer.
Sadly, we’d have to wait for a while. Macari had to take some time away from music making and performing after her grandmother passed away in 2021. That loss took her to a place where she didn’t feel like being creative, and that feeling of profound emptiness is something many of us can relate to.
Now, Macari is back with the single “Circles” that’s informed and inspired by what she’s experienced as a woman and a young artist at a personal and career crossroads and the fear, self-doubt and uncertainty that she faces. “Circles” finds Macari expanding on the gifts that she displayed on I Am Everything on this intensely personal and reflective ballad.
