First Listen: Basecamp Beguiles with “Watch My Back”

image001_1

Basecamp is a group of three producers from Nashville who joined forces in June 2013 to collaborate on original songs.  They released their debut EP, Basecamp, later that year and recently have dropped their second EP, Greater Than.  A favorite on the new EP is its opening track “Watch My Back,” a sensuous mix of R&B and electronica featuring a haunting beat, ethereal vocals and lyrical depth.  The topic – a lover that you should but just can’t quit – has been covered by others, most notably by Maxwell in “Bad Habit,” but Basecamp comes at it from a different angle, deciding, ultimately, “at the end of the day, what’s one more night?” Fans of Kwabs and Disclosure may find the band’s ambient soundscape especially appealing.  Have a listen.
