First Listen: AWB returns with your funky “Doctor”

awb2018

(February 10, 2018) More than four decades after they stormed onto the charts with “Pick Up The Pieces,” the Average White Band is still going strong. The group, now consisting of Alan Gorrie (lead vocals, bass, guitar), Onnie McIntrye (guitar), Fred “Freddy V” Vigdor (tenor sax, keyboards), Brent Carter (lead vocals), Cliff Lyons (alto sax, keyboards), Rob Aries (keyboards, bass), and Rocky Bryant (drums), sounds fantastic live — check them out next time they’re in your area — and is still recording, too.

Last year we premiered their collaboration with legendary Isley Brothers keyboardist and songwriter, Chris Jasper on “Harvest For The World.” And that song is part of a brand new album released by the band this week, called Inside Out. It is a combination of four new studio cuts (“inside”) along with eight live recordings (“outside”) of some of their biggest hits. It is a welcome addition to AWB’s voluminous catalog.

One of the cuts from the album that is hitting us is the funky midtempo, “Ask Your Doctor.” Opening with the familiar AWB horns, it moves into a steady groove and a fun story about the physical and emotional changes that come with first feelings of love. It is quintessential AWB, and it is great to hear them doing it.

Check out “Ask Your Doctor” and welcome back AWB!
