(May 6, 2025) Ann Nesby is a singer who fans know will deliver some good, old-fashioned soul sanging. Nesby has been holding it down for bringing power packed and unabashedly soulful vocals to whatever she sings, from the time she became a household name with The Sounds of Blackness.
She puts her distinctive vocal imprint on the New Jack infused gospel that she sang with TSOB, straight soul heard on classics like “This Weekend,” and her latest, “Let’s Stay Together,” the Memphis infused soul/funk foot stomping, hand clapping duet that pairs her with Calvin Richardson.
Of course, the song title, those tightly harmonized Memphis horns and the bass line putting down a steady rhythm might have some folks thinking this is a cover of the Al Green classic by the same title.
The tune captures the same joyous fusion of the sacred and secular coming together in the name of committing to each other. However, Nesby crafted an original song where she and Richardson encourage each other to remain true to each other through whatever comes their way.
In Richardson, Nesby finds a vocal kindred spirit. The native North Carolinian always brings the southern soul credibility to anything he does. Check out “Let’s Stay Together,” the duet featuring Ann Nesby and Calvin Richardson from Nesby’s new album ANNiversary, here.
