(October 26, 2021) The weather here in Michigan is cooling off, and the days are getting shorter. But many of us are looking for that one last glimpse of Summer. And we found ours today in the brand new single from composer, producer and bass player Andrew Ford. The Los Angeles native, now transplanted to Texas, has worked with a who’s who of R&B and jazz artists ranging from Al Jarreau to Chaka Khan to Whitney Houston. But for the past year, Ford has been issuing his own singles, delivering attractive contemporary jazz/soul releases that have found a welcoming audience.
For Ford’s newest, he teams with longtime ST fave, Lynne Fiddmont, who provides whispery vocals over the cool summertime jam that is “Rio Rendezvous.” Andrew tells us that the song is “in the spirit of some of my favorites in this style like George Duke, Ramsey Lewis or even Earth Wind & Fire.” And to make that sound even more authentic, the song also features EWF saxman Gary Bias.
This is a look at the ocean summer evening jam, and that sounds just perfect here as the leaves begin to fall. Check out “Rio Rendezvous,” and welcome Andrew Ford back to SoulTracks.
