The singer with such a distinction is Alex Nester, someone whose talent caught the eyes of SoulTracks’ senior writers back in the website’s early days.
Alex’s new song “This Love Will Shine” features her powerful vocals and is anchored by blazing horns and a punching, danceable beat. The track well reflects her influences – soul and funk from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s – which she channels in her music. It’s natural for Alex to channel this classic soul sound since she has worked with and/or opened for legendary artists from that era including Stevie Wonder, Evelyn “Champagne” King, and Earth, Wind & Fire. “Shine” was produced by another member of that classic era – Grammy-winning artist Felton Pilate of ConFunkShun, along with GWC and Sea L. Low.
