(October 18, 2019) Abria M. Smith had big plans for the anthem “We Shall Rise.” Smith, a Boston native, wrote the song while attending the Berklee College of Music, where she eventually earned a degree in Music Business/Music Management. An artist who began honing her craft as a poet when she was seven, Smith added acting, singing, rapping and songwriting to her portfolio by the time that she became a teenager.
“We Shall Rise” was one of two songs Abria wrote and submitted for inclusion on a 2006 Berklee College of Music produced CD that raised awareness and funds for the Darfur crisis. The producers chose the other song. Smith is rightfully proud of “We Shall Rise,” a tune that affirms the human spirit’s ability to overcome any adversity and setback.
Abria displays her talents as a singer, songwriter and rapper on this tune that mixes a percussive, Afro-Caribbean shuffle beat with some 1970s era wah-wah guitar work. Check out “We Shall Rise” here.
