Featured Album: Lasperanza plants a winner with “Seeds”

“I didn’t want to do straightforward covers. I wanted to change the arrangements, be it from a rhythmic or harmonic aspect, sometimes both, while always keeping a soul/jazz flavour. Give the songs a new lease of life rather than just a fresh lick of paint.”

Those are the words of noted saxman and Lasperanza founder, Rico Garofalo. The UK-based musician and producer had worked with many of the greats over the years, and he had a clear vision of what he wanted to create for his own project. The result is Seeds, a terrific new album that takes a number of classic songs and gives them a whole new feel. Check out our review of Seeds.

Garofalo has brought along some incredible vocalists for the project, including Kayleigh O’Neill, Rhiannon Penney, Colette Connor, LaAerial, Hannah White, Heidi Vogel and Keni Stevens.

He also honed down a long list of favorite songs to a tight bunch of ten, and the results are stunning. The project received early buzz for “Under The Moon and Over the Sky” and an ambitious take on “Working Day and Night,” but the whole collection is something special (check out our review).

We’re pleased to present Seeds as our newest SoulTracks Featured Album. Check it out below; this may be the Spring album you’ve been looking for.
