If there is a word that is most used to describe Chicago-based group ASCENDANT, it is “authentic.” For nearly two decades, the band, consisting of Kael Mboya, Michael Lockett, Curtis Kincaid, Eric Johnson, Kenery Kent Smith, Renée Ruffin, and Donica Lynn, has been wowing audiences with a free flowing blend of R&B, jazz and world-influenced music that is tied together by a keen sense of melody and musicianship.
It’s been three years since we were blessed with the second installment of the group’s Illuminate series, and now we welcome the third, the 7-song Illuminate: Yellow.
