If you’ve been reading SoulTracks over the past couple of years, you know that we’ve been closely tracking the meteoric rise of singer and songwriter Acantha Lang. The SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards winner has the whole package — a singer and songwriter with a keen sense of music history and a commitment to taking no shortcuts in creating memorable, musically rich songs.
As we anxiously await Acantha’s much anticipated debut full album, Beautiful Dreams, coming this summer, we have another fantastic sneak peek for SoulTrackers: “Come Back Home” is a very personal song that beautifully expresses emotion about a relationship in Acantha’s life.
Fresh off a 23-date UK tour with Roachford, Acantha tells us, “’Come Back Home’ is a song I wrote about my father. He left home when I was 11 years old (when my parents got divorced). I didn’t see him again until 15 years later and that was only a brief visit. I wrote this song about my hopes to see him again one day and maybe have a relationship. It’s a dream of mine that deep down inside I know will probably never happen but this song represents my wishful thinking that in a perfect world this is how things could be.”
As with all of Acatha’s music, “Come Back Home” is brilliantly produced with the kind of full-bodied arrangement that recalls classic Stax Records of the 70s. We simply can’t wait to hear her debut album.
