Happy Birthday to singer and percussionist Sheila E!

Happy birthday to singer and percussionist Sheila Escovedo, aka Sheila E, born December 12, 1957.

Born into an iconic musical family led by her father, noted percussionist Pet Escovedo, Sheila E was already a noted percussionist when she was thrust into the limelight by the The Purple One, Prince. She performed in his band and contributed to such classic albums as Purple Rain.

Sheila E. carved her own niche as a lead performer in the funk and pop scenes, showcasing her dynamic stage presence and versatility. Her solo career took off with the release of the album The Glamorous Life in 1984, featuring the hit single of the same name. She followed with a string of hits over the remainder of the decade.

Since then Sheila has continued to work with other artists as well as maintain a steady concert schedule, where she puts on a dynamic, action-filled show. And she is still looks and acts “glamorous” well into the 2020s.
