As the leader of the Jimmy Castor Bunch, he topped the charts with such cuts as the humorous “Troglodyte (Cave Man)” and “The Bertha Butt Boogie.”
Castor, who was often referred to as “E-Man” or “Everything Man,” started as a singer and saxophonist in New York, and first achieved notoriety working with Frankie Lymon, for whom he also wrote the hit “I Promise to Remember.” But it was his solo work and work leading the Jimmy Castor Bunch that won fans all over the world. Other hits included “King Kong,” “Potential” and “Hey Leroy, Your Mama’s Callin’ You,” with many of his songs being later sampled by hip-hop artists.
Even long after his hitmaking days were over, Castor continued to perform around the world, pleasing fans with his unique style of funk and dance music. Sadly, Castor died on January 16, 2012
