Philadelphia singer David Ebo first came to the attention of the musical world when he replaced Teddy Pendergrass as the lead singer for the iconic group Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes in 1976. The powerful-voiced Ebo led the group for four albums beginning with Reaching For The World. While his timing was unfortunate, as the band was no longer part of the Philadelphia International Records hit juggernaut, he showed himself to be a talented vocalist.
Ebo left the group in the early 80s and released a moderately successful solo album, I’d Rather Be By Myself, in 1985. Sadly, Ebo died of bone cancer in 1993 at the young age of 43.
