CeCe Peniston

Quick Look:

Born: September 6, 1969

CeCe (Cecilia Veronica) Peniston grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, where she cultivated her singing talent in church choirs and school musicals. Her big break came in the early 1990s when she was discovered by a local producer, propelling her onto the international music scene.

Peniston’s debut single, “Finally,” released in 1991, became an instant sensation. The infectious dance track topped the US Dance Chart and peaked within the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, establishing her as a formidable presence in dance music. Her debut album, Finally, followed in 1992, featuring other hit singles like “We Got a Love Thang” and “Keep On Walkin’.”

Throughout the 1990s, Peniston continued to chart with hits like “I’m in the Mood” and “I’m Not Over You.” Her sophomore album, Thought ‘Ya Knew, released in 1994, seamlessly blended elements of dance, R&B, and pop. This album solidified her reputation as a multi-genre artist, capable of delivering both high-energy anthems and soulful ballads.

In the late 1990s, Peniston released Movin’ On, which featured a more mature sound and further expanded her musical repertoire. She has continued to successfully record and perform well into the 21st Century.
