For those who say that the days of great R&B bands are behind us, we present Tristan. The Netherlands-based group has been wowing us with a full-bodied, soulful sound since the early days of SoulTracks, and they just keep on delivering.
Tristan has returned with Frou-Frou, the group’s 8th full studio album. They describe it this way: “Frou-Frou in our case symbolizes fanciness in our music, with the fine combination of creativity and dedication. After all, we feel more comfortable and stronger as a band than ever. We have tried our best to, once again, put in the extra effort and foremost joy of writing and recording new material.”
That extra effort shows in the fantastic 12-song set, which demonstrates a band in its Imperial Period. Tristan’s “core” of drummer Sebastiaan Cornelissen, bassist Frans Vollink and keyboardist Coen Molenaar has added guitarist Glenn Beck and power-packed vocalist Irma Derby for the new project.
The songs on Frou Frou were designed for not only great listening on your headphones, but also to translate well to the group’s live shows. And this tasty combinaton of R&B, jazz and funk delivers all the way around.
We’re happy to present Frou Frou as our Album of the Month for April. Check it out below, and welcome Tristan back to SoulTracks.
