May 3, 2021 — Welcome back to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which contains elements of those genres and may please your ears. This week we feature the track “Supersonic Wonderland” by Leah Dou.

Dou is a singer/songwriter who has recently risen to notice as the star of the Chinese film Bipolar, which debuted in the US on April 30th as part of Film at Lincoln Center’s New Directors, New Films Festival. In addition to her exceptional acting performance, Dou also composed the film’s music. Dou, who is the daughter of Chinese musician Dou Wei and Hong Kong vocalist Faye Wong, was educated at Berklee in Boston, and her music reflects all manner of Western influences and textures, from acoustic folk to R&B to hip hop and beyond.

Our featured track has muted horns, psychedelic wah-wah guitar lines, a compelling, relaxed beat, and Dou’s honeyed vocals and spoken word passages.  Enjoy.
