First Listen: Carl Brister knows that “I See You”

(July 20, 2025) The story of the creation of “I See You,” the new song by Carl Brister and his son Jordan “J Maestro” Brister, is as inspiring as the song itself. Brister wanted to write a wedding anthem, and he collaborated with his pianist son, Jordan. Father and son recount the process that resulted in the making of “I See You” in a video that can be seen on You Tube.

Brister recalled that he was at a wedding when he decided that he wanted to write a song he could perform at a couple’s special day. “I had this melody – I had this idea – and I came to Jordan. He was practicing the piano,” Carl Brister said. Dad shared the concept, and Jordan began working on the chords on the piano.

Carl Brister said that the lyrics in “I See You” serve as an expression of his belief that what people want in a spouse is a soulmate who, through all the triumphs and travails of life, will love them for who they are because, as he says, “I see you.”

What father and son put together through voice and piano is a beautiful and heartfelt declaration of love. Jordan starts the song with a piano run reminiscent of Donny Hathaway, and his work on the ivories serves as the instrumental counterpoint to the passion and range that his dad brings to the vocals.
