(July 8, 2025) Now more than two decades into his recording career, the King of Indie Soul, Eric Roberson, continues to break new ground musically and lyrically. In the past two years, Roberson has issued a series of singles that explore intimate and often sensitive topics, and he has also been unafraid to push musical boundaries, moving into acoustic balladry, jazz-inflected funk and traditional soul sounds, all seamlessly.
On his newest single, “Over You/Under You,” Roberson breaks a few more rules, delivering the kind of lyrical song that would fit in the 70s singer-songwriter genre and combining it with both a jazzy backdrop and eclectic rhythms. Jazz legend Najee and songwriter Jayshawn Champion certainly add their input into the mix, and the result is a song unlike anything else in the adult soul realm right now.
Roberson’s growth – while simultaneously staying true to his audience – is a musical feat, and continues to make each of his releases a “must listen.” Check out “Over You/Under You” below, and welcome the great Eric Roberson back to SoulTracks.
