(July 14, 2025) “1 AM,” a song from Siloam Pool’s 2021 album Complex Simplicity, is both rangy and focused. The sweeping tune is orchestral and jazzy with more than a little touch of funk. The cut puts listeners in the mind to engage in the activity that Pool describes, to take an early morning ride with that special someone and enjoy the sights, sounds and treats that come to life when the sun goes down.
It’s easy to see why a DJ would want to remix “1 AM.” From Pool’s sensual vocals that employ jazz and Quiet Storm, to the creativity in improvisation displayed by the guitarist and the horns, to changes of tempo that take the tune from a swinging jazz to a percolating funk, there is just so much there. Then, there is the hypnotic hook.
Well-known Detroit based DJ Robert Webb heard all those sounds and reached out to the artist, asking to extend the song’s deep vibe for his live ballroom events. Pool fused the song’s extended funky, bass driven instrumental, and fired up the tune’s last two minutes, interspersing the hook to create something that will keep people on the dance floor whether they are stepping or line dancing.
