First Listen: Colya Marie shines on sultry “Only You”

(February 26, 2025) There is an ongoing debate about just how explicit the lyrics of a song must be to convey physical attraction, erotic desire and the act of love making. Do songs need to play-by-play description of what happens when the lights go out, or is it best to use vocal phrasing and lyrics that give space for the listener to use their imagination to fill in the blanks?

On the single “Only You,” vocalist Colya Marie lands squarely in the latter camp. Don’t get it twisted, Marie engages in an intimate and sensual monolog  where she makes her intention clear. Her sole focus is on loving and satisfying the man with whom she is sharing this intimate space.

Marie sets a scene that is equally romantic and erotic. Two people find themselves in a place where all distractions are gone, and she is free to express what she wants at this moment. “Touch me now, and don’t ever take your touch away,” she sings.

“Only You” has an instrumental arrangement that adds to the intimacy of Marie’s words. It’s as if the musicians want to ensure that the recipient of Marie’s message hears and understands every word. Check out Colya Marie’s “Only You” here.
