(October 10, 2024) Arizona native Teri Tobin is a longtime songstress who’s been in the indie artist game for quite some time. With four albums and a Christmas release in the catalog, Teri’s midrange voice has graced many recordings, which include the singles “Goodmorning, Love”, “Heaven”, “Free,” and “Smile Again.”
On October 9th, in honor of National Curves Day, Teri releases the slow burner “Curves”. With veteran producer David P. Stevens (Maysa, Anthony Hamilton, Will Downing) on board (he shares co-writing duty here), the tune takes a blues turn in the arrangement. Ms. Teri declares the beauty and power in being a curvy woman as well as its sexual attractiveness (“more than a handle, more than enough…can you handle these curves.”)
“Curves” goes along quite nicely but the bridge gets a bit lost in the sauce of the searing hard rock guitar solo before Teri succinctly wraps up the tune. That part there throws off the song, nonetheless, it’s great to hear a track where the declaration of beauty goes beyond what society and mainstream media maintains. To take a page from a longtime social media influencer, Teri’s “Curves” is her way to say to the world, “eff your beauty standards,” while declaring great pride for herself and many others.
