World Premiere: Actor T.J. Wilkins shines on “Picture Us”

(August 15, 2024) T.J. Wilkins’ new song, “Picture Us,” is a trip down a musical memory lane. That’s in keeping with the title and theme of his upcoming album, Yesterday, Today, Forever, which is due to be released on Oct. 11.

Yesterday, Today, Forever finds Wilkins, a top 12 contestant on “The Voice” and a Grammy nominated artist, taking listeners on a musical history lesson. Tracks like “Picture Us” recall the instrumental and vocal arrangements from the 1960s and early 70s.

The arrangement is analog and features a tight horn section, soulful guitar licks and backing vocalista who engage in a call and response with Wilkins. Wilkins is a singer who throws his rangy baritone, often finding himself taking flights of fancy into falsetto territory in this tune.

“Picture Us” is the kind of breezy and unapologetic love song that once dominated summer airwaves. This song perfectly captures everything people imagine a summertime romance to be.

Wilkins is suited to lead a guided tour of musical history. Not only is he a singer and songwriter, but he’s an actor who has appeared on screen and stage, where he’s appeared on “High School Musical” and as Barack Obama in the play “44”
