(July 11, 2023) The Sextones have done it again! The Reno, Nevada-based quartet have dropped yet another sweet soulful gem, “Beck and Call”, from their upcoming album, Love Can’t Be Borrowed, scheduled for fall release. This third single, the follow-up to “Better Late Than Never” and “Without You,” is produced by the Monophonics’ front man, Kelly Finnigan.
This soulful ballad opens with lead singer/guitarist Mark Sexton strumming sweet chords, then coming in with his solid falsetto as the band kicks in with a nice and steady slow jam groove. The strings add that sweetener that is so very necessary for a tune of this caliber. Sexton sings of a love that he desires so much that he’ll be at his lover’s….y’all get the picture by now!
What I dig about “Beck and Call” is that the Sextones (as on their prior singles) stick with the soul/R&B formula that worked so well for many classics from back in the day – sing directly to your lover, get to the point and get out within three minutes. This is all captured in the brand new video of the band performing this single live.
Yes, this writer is biased and gives zero you-know-what’s about it. The video is great, and I’m Looking forward to the new album. Check out our World Premiere of the “Beck and Call” video below.
Well done, Sextones!
