(August 11, 2022) The Michigan-based pop/soul band The Erly is new to us, but there are traces of two generation of great artists in their bright music. With a clear love for both 70s pop and funk, The Erly is a tasty throwback that sounds completely fresh in 2022.
The band’s new single, “Tracing Circles” is a midtempo earworm that uses a power beat and jangly guitar to create a vibe that would have been just as in place on a Casey Kasem countdown forty years ago as it would be in a dorm room today. And the group’s harmonies are right on time, too.
The band say that “Tracing Circles is about trying to figure out what you want out of life. Not only is it about the endless up and down cycle of fail-win-fail, but it also touches on whether you are following your dream or someone else’s.” And the song’s loose feel and hooky chorus deliver the message effectively.
We’re pleased to present the World Premiere of “Tracing Circles.” Help us welcome The Erly to SoulTracks.
