(September 23, 2023) He was one of the most important soul singers of the 1970s and the man who helped elevate the falsetto to the fore of the lush, orchestral soul music that came to be known as Philly Soul. Russell Thompkins, Jr., repeatedly topped the charts as the lead singer of The Stylistics, delivering some of the greatest soul ballads of an era. He is also a SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
Now, Russell continues the solo career he established two decades ago by teaming with another soul music legend, songwriter and producer Preston Glass, for the new ballad, “Ready For Anything.” Harkening to the romantic vibes of the greatest hits by The Stylistics, “Ready For Anything” is a ready-made wedding song about a couple that has already been through a lot of ups and downs, and has only been strengthened by the experiences. Now they are “Ready for anything” that life brings their way together.
Russell Thompkins’ familiar falsetto shines again on the single, taking a lot of his long time fans back decades to a time when sweet ballads dominated radio and romantic moments. We’re proud to present its World Premiere. Check it out below.
