(January 24, 2024) “Lover,” the dreamy new single by neo-soul singer Moneá, is an ode to the joys and pain of falling in love in the city. The city parks, streets, restaurants, stores, and night spots all hold the potential to be the site for people to meet, fall in love, break up or reconcile.
Moneá said that she sought to capture all that romantic energy and potential on “Lover”: “With ‘Lover,’ I wanted to capture the energy of falling in love in the city – the highs, the lows, and the unpredictable moments. It’s a celebration of love’s journey in all its beautiful chaos.”
“Lover” drifts in a on an airy fusion of R&B bass that sets the foundation for jazzy flourishes on the piano and saxophone. All of this serves as the platter for Monea’s angelic and sensual vocals as she sings about looking for and connecting with her lover on city streets and then exploring the city and each other throughout the day.
