(July 1, 2024) The names associated with the single “Tasting Sunshine” raise expectations. Kimberly Brewer wrote the song and Take 6 member Mark Kibble steps in as her duet partner. Saxophone legend Gerald Albright adds some soulful jazz on this tune that’s produced by none other than Chris “Big Dog” Davis, who has worked with Maysa Leak and Will Downing, just to name a few.
That’s some star power, and they deliver a gem om this ballad about a love that’s so special that it activates the senses in a way you didn’t think senses could be activated. Brewer is a student of the art of the song, having done her studies as a much in demand backing vocalist and now as a lead singer.
Brewer thrilled us last year with her remake of “Don’t Make Me Wait To Long.” Stevie Wonder wrote that song for Roberta Flack in 1980, and Wonder is one of the legends for whom Brewer worked as a backing vocalist.
Brewer showcases her talent as a songwriter on “Tasting Sunshine,” as she and Kibble take their turns sharing just how special is the love that they share. Davis gives the pair a lush and soulful production, and Albright’s improvisations on the saxophone instrumental creativity to the conversation.
Brewer’s angelic voice is a sweet contrast to Kibble’s husky baritone on a track that lasts nearly four minutes but ends way too soon. This is tune that will have gentleman pulling their ladies close. Check out the World Premiere of “Tasting Sunshine” here.
