(November 6, 2024) Kelsey Blackstone’s breezy track “Sway” can be about two people’s efforts to get on sync on the dance floor or in life. In order to get on the same page, one person has to release the things that are inhibiting them, and that is the theme of “Sway.”

Blackstone sings about two people who can’t seem to connect because of the breakneck pace of life. One person is just too sped up by life to enjoy what’s going on right now and that includes enjoying the person who is right by their side.

Blackstone captures the tension between two people trying to connect through the song’s pacing. “Sway” alternates between an up-tempo song with a bouncy bass line, and loopy keyboards as Blackstone sings about trying to make her partner understand let go of what prevents him from enjoying the present. “Sway” then falls into a brassy jazz/funk groove on the song’s hook.
