(June 25, 2026) Classic Rock fans remember the late Syd Barrett for his years as the frontman of the legendary band Pink Floyd. And now as much of Europe pays tribute to Barrett’s 80th birthday, singer Diana Silveira presents her own homage in a reimagined rendition of Barrett’s revered 1969 solo single “Octopus.”
Backed by the Psychedelic Circus ( Emily Francis on synth, Nat Martin on solo guitar, Ivo Perpétuo on swell guitar, Sonny Winslow on bass, and Martin Magic Johnson on drums), Silveira takes the loose acoustic rock number in an entirely different direction, turning into a sultry, slinkily soulful cut.
Silveira says, “The lyrics and the vocal line asked for something mellower and airier, so that’s the direction we let it take. The vocal take you hear is a single take — it felt so honest that we decided not to touch it.”
That single take is a winner, an interpretation that is as pleasing as it is unexpected. We’re proud to present the World Premiere of “Octopus.” Check it out below and welcome Diana Silveira back to SoulTracks.
