(November 9, 2022) If there is one thing French people know about – other than food and fashion – it’s romance. So when Bordeaux native and retro soul singer Alexis Evans pens or sings a love song, he’s working in a comfortable space. Evans, however, doesn’t sing from the Edith Pilaf songbook. He’s more comfortable studying Otis Redding.
Evans’ English father introduced his son to R&B, blues and soul music and put a guitar in his hand when Evans was a boy. By the time he reached his teen years, Evans was performing in jazz clubs and winning Young Talent Prize at the Cognac Blues Passion festival. Evans was 17 at the time.
Since then, he has released two albums, 2016s Girl Bait and 2019s I’ve Come a Long Way, and will release his third, Yours Truly, next year. “Mister Right On Time,” the lead single from that upcoming album, will be released on Nov, 11.
“Mister Right On Time” has that early 1970s soul feel, fusing elements of funk percussion with a touch of rock guitar and some tight horn play. Evans noted that “Mister Right on Time” is one of several songs that will deal with that most splendored thing on Yours Truly. “Mister Right On Time” deals with it in a more cynical but poetic way,” he says.
