(April 24, 2026) SoulTrackers know Will Downing the singer. But do they know Will Downing the photographer? The most awarded artist in the history of the SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards is indeed a man of many talents, and one of them is as a noted photographer – particularly of his musical friends.
Will has now gathered some of his favorites in the new photography book, Still Sounds. And he has sent an audio message to his many fans about the book. We’ve transcribed it here and you can listen to it below:
“What’s going on everyone? It’s me, your man Will here, aka the Prince of Sophisticated Soul. Welcome to my photography book, Still Sounds.
For those of you who did not know, I am a photographer, and I have been, probably, for the last 30 plus years. The last project that I released back in 2005 was entitled Unveiled, and it’s taken me 20 years, or 20 plus years, to come up with a collection of images that I think are worthy of your eyes.
My favorite thing to photograph are my artist friends. When you look through the book, that’s what you’re going to see. You’re going to see photographs from an angle and from a standpoint that a lot of photographers don’t have. So, I believe you’re going to enjoy the mess out of this book because you also get stories that go along with the photos. Not long, long, long stories—just little paragraphs as to how we met, how I got the shot, my relationship with the artist that I photographed.
Some of them very funny, some of them very poignant, some of them very sad. But it gives you an authentic insight to the relationship that I have with these artists, and it’s a perspective that you just can’t get in other books from other photographers. I’m just being honest with you. Hey everyone, enjoy Still Sounds by me, your man Will Downing.”
