(September 14, 2017) Toni Braxton is set to return early in 2018 with a new album entitled Sex & Cigarettes, and has now released the first single from the album, “Deadwood.”
“Deadwood” is a cool midtempo that opens with that familiar deep, sexy voice, singing a song about being “down, but not out.” It has the kind of groove and melodic underpinning that fits Ms. Braxton’s wonderful discography. We’re digging it.
Braxton has hinted that the new album will be “uncensored” in content, and will be much more overtly sexual than her prior work (a page from the recent Chante Moore playbook), as she plans to demonstrate with the upcoming video for “Deadwood,” which is reportedly NSFW.
Sex & Cigarettes will be the first Braxton solo release since 2010’s successful Pulse release, though in the interim she also issued the strong album of duets with Babyface, Love, Marriage & Divorce, and has several years of her family reality television show Braxton Family Values.
