Emotional lead single "Can’t Last A Day" features Faith Evans
Tour across the country in the works
Los Angeles, Ca. – Grammy nominated singer Teena Marie celebrates her 30th year career anniversary with the release of a new album Congo Square set for a June 9th, 2009 street date. Teena Marie’s 13th album release and debut on Stax Records/Concord Music Group, is an ode to all those who came before her like Sarah Vaughan, Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye to name a few.
The first single "Can’t Last A Day" featuring Faith Evans will be released and available on iTunes April 7th. Teena describes how Faith became involved in the song. "It was after I had recorded the song I got the idea to put Faith on it. I’ve always loved Faith and her vocal style. She reminds me of me. Her correlation with Biggie – having a career with him and without him – reminds me of me and Rick. I feel like she’s a younger me. Of the younger ladies, she’s the one I love most." Teena and Faith move back and forth throughout the song with powerful emotion, ripping scenarios of haunting feelings of love and trying to get through the day without it. Teena continues "Musically, "Can’t Last a Day" has that Gamble & Huff, Teddy Pendergrass Philadelphia International sound ‘in the music. It’s about that mystical, joined-through-God kind of love…really powerful…like the love I felt when I spoke to my auntie who was married for 57 years, and reflected on my mother who was married to my father for 36 years until he died. When she dies she’ll be buried next to him. I’m talking about people being together until the end of time. I think we’re really missing that level of love today."
In support of the single and albums’ release Teena will embark on a national tour.
